Ayurveda

The “science of life”, Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga. This ancient knowledge is the first medical system in the world. The teachings of Ayurveda state that we are each a combination of doshas (bio-spiritual forces) that make up our unique constitution (prakriti), which we carry through our lives. With this knowledge we are able to “eat, think and do” in ways that establish and maintain a healthy body, mind and spirit.

A one-size fits all approach to life does not work, according to Ayurveda. Because we are each unique it is important that our diet lifestyle choices reflect our needs. We are part of nature, which is always changing, so during specific periods in our lives, through the changing seasons, and at certain times of the day, we can make choices to make us happier, healthier and whole.

As the mind and body begin to function more optimally we make better choices that support our highest good and align us with nature.

Understanding Ayurveda helps us to get more out of our yoga practice and more out of our life. My teacher says "Why wait for happiness!" We have the tools and techniques to take us there.

As a certified Ayurveda Practitioner I teach students to apply these principles. According renowned Ayurveda teacher David Frawley, Ayurveda is emerging as one of the most important global systems of mind-body medicine.
